what can you do when you take a day rest

Region tours

Leaving Curtea de Arges city, when Transfagarasan starts, left, it is a sign for Poienari fortress, built at the beginning of the 13th century by the first Walachian rulers, also residence for Vlad Tepes till 1476, now a ruin, but its location, over the hill, it is very interesting; looks like an intersection of waves...some said they got some feelings there, I guess for climbing the 1462 steps, though this is not a problem for fagaras climbers. Rest days should also be sporty! Do not eat too much romanian food from the restaurants nearby, it is expensive, and not so good cooked. Better go up...

and see the Vidraru Dam, night time during week, is nice, since is no crowd there, and the lights are like in a western city! Still, this was communist design, nothing was changed since was built. Keep going up you will meet some forest and some hotels, a resort called Cumpana, and, after ~ 50km, you leave the forest and meet the alpine view - here also lie some chalets - last one is called Capra & belonged to former leader Ceausescu! In all our Carpathians we track chalets, hunting posts belonging to former leader, views from those spots were really worthy. Soul can rest indeed!
